Watch/Listen:
Shelley Duvall’s passing sent me on a rabbit hole to find out why she vanished from my algorithm for the past 20 years.
This rabbit hole starts with a brilliant podcast, Texas Twiggy. I am only a few episodes in because I have to watch every movie mentioned thus far. So digging further in, I watched 3 Women, an early 1977 Robert Altman film, also staring Sissy Spacek and Janice Rule. Shelley’s performance as an incessant, narcissistic talker is impeccable. I have no freaking idea what was happening in this movie but you can’t take your eyes off the performances or the scenery. I held my breath for something witchy or David Lynch-y to happen.

This is Big by Marisa Meltzer tells the story of Jean Nidetch, the larger than life founder of Weight Watchers. This woman is fa-b-u-lous, her story is unbelievable and Marisa was the perfect person to share it. I am going to do a whole substack on this but read this, it’s quick and engaging.
Substacks Added:
My favorite magazine queen is back. Were you raise on Sassy, Jane and xojane? Then you are going to spend the rest of your weekend reading Another Jane Pratt Thing.
Other thoughts on this weeks consumption:
Tell me Lies season 2 episode 6 is the best episode yet, completely deranged. See slap shots below.
Episode 1 of the new season of RHONY was boring. They can’t make me hate Brynn.
I spent a small fortune taking my spectrum kiddos to a live monster truck show and was underwhelmed and sticker-shocked. They loved it, though. It’s slow and boring, I recommend bluetooth ear protection headphones to listen to an audiobook on.
Loved these Shelley Duvall pics! And I’m interested in the Weight Watchers founder story - I know nothing about her
